AVET Project Holds Ribbon Cutting

Satellite Beach--FL

On Friday April 4, 2014 , In cooperation with and utilizing the facilities of American Legion Post 200 in Satellite Beach.  AVET Project welcomed honored guests, local military commanders, and numerous members of the AVET Project volunteer corps at their much anticipated and long-overdue ribbon cutting.  AVET is  an acronym for  American Veterans Empowerment Team.

As an “all-volunteer” 501(c)(3) nonprofit –  Avet Projects mission
Brings focus upon and heighten awareness to the needs of past and present United States service men and women, their families, and other needy Americans in providing programs and services of assistance, entertainment, and counseling by enlisting the public's aid.

Entering its fifth year of operations, AVET Project was founded by Garren Cone who is an
Air Force veteran himself and a retired legal advocate for veterans having practiced before
the Board of Veterans Appeals in Washington DC. Both Garren and his wife Kim, who is
the executive director of the organization, are inspired and passionate supporters of the
troops .

Of primary interest is the need for reintegration assistance for these returning troops. AVET
Project’s “Project Recuperation & Reintegration” (PR&R) retreats effectively address these
needs. Kim Cone stated recently, “AVET Project’s PR&R retreat program literally changes
the lives of the combat warrior participants.” She went on to say, “Whether it’s the initial
screening for battlefield wounds such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or the
assessment for suicide risk, or even learning for the first time they may be eligible for
disability benefits from the VA or their respective State of residence, they come away from
this free retreat with an individualized action plan as a roadmap to further their
reintegration back into civilian life.

In honor  of its efforts , Avet Project  was recognized at the recent ribbon cutting by President Obama – through George H.W. Bush’s “Thousand Points of Light Foundation” – for being a true leader in helping others in need.  AVET Project also  hosts a weekly  radio outreach (AMERICAN WARRIOR RADIO) on   WMEL 1300AM.  every Saturday from 11am to Noon.

I had a great time at the Ribbon Cutting chatting and spending time with our  Military and Veteran Community  on our beautiful  Space Coast of Florida .  Such humble souls that served our country so courageously.

You too can be a part of our Veteran and Military Community by supporting  or Volunteering for  Avet Project or stop by  one of Avet projects events.
